Our Story

At Seniors Improv, we believe that growing older doesn’t mean becoming less adventurous, less creative, or less connected. In fact, we believe the opposite.

Every person who walks through our doors brings something unique, decades of stories, wisdom, humour, resilience, and life experience. Those experiences don’t make someone “past their prime.” They make them interesting.

Seniors Improv began with a simple idea: create a place where adults 55+ could laugh, learn, and build genuine connections through the art of improvisation.

For more than eight years, we’ve had the privilege of teaching seniors in both Canada and the United States. Along the way, we’ve discovered something unexpected. We thought we were teaching improv—what we were really doing was building a community.

We’ve watched strangers become friends. Participants who arrived feeling nervous now encourage newcomers with a smile. Classmates meet for coffee between sessions, gather for impromptu improv afternoons, celebrate birthdays together, and stay in touch long after a course has ended.

Seeing participants hug one another at the end of a session reminds us that the greatest thing we offer isn’t simply improv—it’s belonging. Of course, we still laugh. A lot.

Every class is filled with playful games, unexpected moments, and plenty of shared laughter. But underneath the fun is something even more meaningful: a place where people feel comfortable being themselves. There are no auditions. No pressure to perform. No expectation to be funny. Just a welcoming group of people discovering that trying something new is a little easier when you’re doing it together.

Our hope is that every participant leaves with more confidence, more laughter, and a few new friends. Because sometimes the hardest part is simply walking through the door. After that, we laugh together.
